Thanks George-I do just want to finnish before my original-so hopefully it'll be a nice warm up!
A Berrocco is a vitamin tablet-I have half a tablet before I do a long run and possibly the other half if I feel a bit drained after! Thanks again :0)
Hello George
I ran the Reading last year, and managed an okay time of 1:54, I want to improve on it a tad! What I wanted to ask was your opinion on the fact that I have entered to run the Green Park run (with my 6 year old)before I run the half marathan is this setting myself up for failure? Thanx
Thanks George - I am a relative beginner and I started about a month ago - can now do about 6 miles or so. I also have a place in the London Marathon so I am trying to find a good training plan to follow shortly - the simpler the better! Looking forward to building my distance and taking part in the RHM. I watched your video on running techniques which was useful and I'll give it a try on my run tomorrow morning!
Hi George,
I'm still running and have recently joined the Abingdon Amblers. Unfortunately the club night is on Tuesday so I miss your webcast. As you may recall my ambition is to run a marathon but I missed out on the ballot for London again this year - contemplating other events. I did over 12 miles on my long run on Sunday and felt very comfortable. I am due to do a 10k event at the end of November so I will be concentrating more on tempo runs and intervals over the next few weeks.
Hi George. Yes, I'm currently in Australia and training for a half marathon on the 22nd November. In between I'm fitting in some 10km races. I come back to the UK mid January and am going to use the Reading Half Marathon as a target to get me through the UK winter :-( Plus, I've done that one a few times before so really, really, really want to increase my speed and beat my PB.
george , i'm looking to to do it around the 2 hr mark have come close enough(completed it in 2hr 11 last month but ran out of steam) but the last 2-3 km put a dampner on it so i'd be more happy to finish strong so this time i'll try and focus on improving speed as i'm fairly sure i've got the legs to do it in 2 hrs
Hi George ,
i've done two halfs this year and my main focus was just completing them . A main prob was running out of steam but your special report seemed to deal very well with that , so i'm aiming to run the RHM with a bit more confidence i just feel i need to train a bit smarter as i'm working (12hr) night shifts month on month off , have you any advice on training in such circumstances as this seems to greatly reduce the time avaiable ?

Hi George,
I did it last year (1st time) and have entered the London Marathon this year (confirmed place). Have started training, but only in the last couple of weeks.
just doing a 2/3 10k's a week to begin with but need to get out for some longer ones at the weekend.
Time seems to fly though, so I better get a move on.
Thanks for your email. I do the Reading Half every year. My main worry is my speed, I am much slower than I used to be. My PB is 1hr 47mins and last year it was 1hr 59mins. I am currently seeing a physio as I was suffering from hip pain which is now getting better. My speed does not seem to be improving and my long run times are very slow. I have started doing some speed/interval sessions so am hoping this will help.
I was thinking of running with music for the first time on race day, is this a good idea and is there anything you would recommend?
Hi George , Thanks for getting back to me the advice has been helpful i fell like i no what i'm doing a bit more now, this is helpful to have on hand especially if a novice like myself cheers...
To be honest, as this is my first big race my target is to finish. Although in training I have been running just under 12 minute miles, so hope to do in in about 2 hrs 50. I was very interested to read about the experiences of the other first timers, and was encouraged to read that my fears are not unique. I have been following the training plan downloaded from your website for a 2.30 finish time, and have found it fine so far, but to be honest, I struggled to do the four days last week. I could only manage one of the 6 mile runs as I felt I needed more recovery time. Completed 9 yesterday no problem, but will not run again until Wednesday now. I am wondering if I am doing enough in these last three weeks?
This is my first ever half marathon. I have run a few 10k's before which have gone well and managed sub 1 hour. I am hoping for a sub 2 hour for the Reading Half!
My training is going OK. Been managing 1-2 7 mile runs per week. Also been doing about 5 1.5 hour intensive aerobic classes per week. So hoping this will be enough!
Am nervous, but looking forwards to the big day!

Hi George
Help!!
I have been off training for a week with a bad knee(my dogs got abit over excited & collidid with my leg pushing my knee inwards pulling the ligaments making running impossible. A week on I feel I can manage a gentle run - what would your advice be to ease my way back into training.
hi george, sorry it took so long to answer back. yes training has been going ok but the cold weather puts me off and now my husband has hurt his knee i have to run on my own :( so im not running as much as i should but once the snow goes i will get out there lol
thanks , kerrie
Hi George,
Thanks for your advice. Today I've been out & found myself a running partner for RHM who's only just a bit ahead of me fitness wise & is so motivated it's scarey. I've talked through my concerns of holding her back & it turns out we run at about the same pace. I'm going to use the RHM as a bit of a marker for the FLM & have been & joined a gym with a PT who's a runner & has set me a realistic training plan. So after my bit of a wobble, I'm feeling a lot less stressed about the whole thing. Defering to next year is not an option & I just want to prove the many people who say I can't do it wrong. I want to get round without walking - but if I have to I won't beat myself up too much.
Thanks again for the advice.

Hi George,
I'm starting to worry slightly about the RHM. I am not a runner & am also doing the FLM. I only started training (& not very well) at the beginning of January. I have been laid flat with a flu bug so haven't trained for the last 2 weeks. I had worked my way up to 2 x 4miles & 1x3mile run per week. I am not training with anyone, am lacking motivation. I 'm not sure about joining a running club as I don't think my pace is quick enough, I'm doing 4 mile in approx43 mins. Any tips or am I beyond help
Many thanks for your note. Yep - I know, bad timing on the RHM and Paris Marathon! I signed up to the Reading Half, caught the official running bug once some friends did the NYC Marathon last year, and signed up with little thought!
I already plan to run Reading at a very slow, steady run pace, but many thanks for your comment.
Do you have any tips on motivation? I don't have issues right now, but I feel that once I get to 15 miles+ I'll find it really hard to train. Is there a good saying or song that you or other people out there repeat in their heads to keep going???
My training is going well. This is my first half marathon and I'm a little bit unsure whether my training is enough. Currently I can fit in only 2 runs a week: 11km run in 1hr 5mins and 18km run in 1hr 45mins. Is this enough?
